Community Sponsorships

Westpac is proud to play a part in supporting community within New Zealand. We are involved with several large national sponsorships as well as many on a local level. Each of our over 5,600 staff members also commit to doing one volunteer day a year which equates to around 42,000 hours we put back into the community.

Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service

Westpac was approached to sponsor the service by pioneer rescue helicopter pilot, the late Peter Button, in 1981. We are now the naming rights sponsor for four regional trusts and an associate sponsor with another five regional chopper trusts.

In 2008 Westpac raised over $940,000 of funds to support this worthy cause. Each resuce costs the trusts around $5,000 and they do an average of over 3,000 resuces per year so additional funds are always needed.

Halberg Trust

Westpac is the Principal Sponsor of the Halberg Trust. The Trust was founded by Sir Murray Halberg over 45 years ago. It aims to honour sporting excellence while also providing opportunities for people with disabilities to be active.

Each year the Trust celebrates New Zealand’s sporting achievements at the Westpac Halberg Awards Dinner, the awards are acknowledged as the country’s premier sporting evening.

Sir Peter Blake Trust

The Sir Peter Blake Trust aims to help New Zealanders make a positive difference to the planet, encouraging environmental awareness as well as leadership development. As a Foundation Partner of the Sir Peter Blake Trust, Westpac has become actively involved in the Trust’s Care for our Coasts programme. Through the programme we contribute to the conservation of one of New Zealand’s greatest natural assets: our seas and coastlines.
